Orion Nebula – Halpha version
You’ll have to add the colors mentally, as unfortunately I won’t be adding colors to this image as my telescope is nearing the end of its life.
The Orion nebula is a diffuse cloud shining in emission and reflection at the heart of the constellation of the same name. It is the most intense nebula visible to the naked eye from the northern hemisphere, at night and in the absence of light pollution. It can easily be seen through binoculars.
Its distance from us is 1,350 light-years…enough to make your head spin.
It contains an open cluster of very young, very hot, recently-born stars, whose radiation is now ionizing the surrounding hydrogen.
The version I’m showing here is captured through a Hydrogen-only filter, which also explains why it’s not in color.
