The Laâyoune 003 meteorite

Discovered in 2022 in the Sahara Desert (Morocco), Laâyoune 003 belongs to the family of lunar meteorites (achondrites). It comes from a fragment of the Moon’s surface ejected by an ancient impact, and then arriving on Earth after a long space journey. This meteorite can be recognized by :

• its light mineral texture,

• its grey hues typical of lunar rocks,

• its extraterrestrial origin confirmed by analysis.
