Iron meteorite: a fragment from the core of an asteroid
An iron meteorite, or siderite, is mainly made of an iron-nickel alloy. These meteorites come from the cores of asteroids that differentiated in the early days of the solar system before being shattered by collisions.
Once polished and etched with acid, many reveal Widmanstätten patterns: a crystal network formed by extremely slow cooling that cannot be reproduced on Earth.
Dense, durable and spectacular, iron meteorites are ideal for starting a collection. Each piece comes with a certificate of authenticity.
