Saint-Aubin meteorite slab delivered in a black case. A rare French specimen, from the largest fall discovered in France.
In stock
This authentic slice of Saint-Aubin meteorite comes from the largest meteorite fall site discovered in France to date. Its internal structure reveals a dense, metallized material, evidence of a very ancient impact.
The impact of the Saint-Aubin meteorite is thought to have occurred around 55,000 years ago, even before the arrival of Homo sapiens in Europe. Over time, the extraterrestrial rock remained buried in the soil of the Aube region, until a farmer discovered its first fragment in 1968.
In 2018, several search campaigns organized by Pierre Antonin identified:
a drop ellipse measuring 1,100 m by 900 m,
123 impact points listed,
a total estimated volume of 6 tonnes of extraterrestrial rock.
To date, the Saint-Aubin meteorite holds the French record, well ahead of the Mont Dieu meteorite.
This slice shows the typical characteristics of metallic meteorites:
a composition rich in iron-nickel,
an internal crystal pattern,
high density despite a fine cut.
Each specimen has a unique relief, directly linked to its cosmic history.
In the field of lithotherapy, Saint-Aubin meteorite is sometimes considered a stone of solidity and memory. Some enthusiasts believe it represents stamina and inner strength.
These ideas are based on symbolic traditions and have not been scientifically validated, but they do add to the interest of this piece.
The slice is delivered in a black case, suitable for presentation and conservation. This type of protection provides an elegant and secure display, ideal for collectors and astronomy enthusiasts.
