Spiral galaxy wall art – Andromeda, Campo del Cielo, Gebel Kamil and Aletai meteorites

This spiral galaxy wall art pairs an astrophotograph with three genuine meteorite fragments: Campo del Cielo, Gebel Kamil and Aletai. The deep black box frame adds depth: the photo and the meteorites seem to float behind the glass, like in a museum display case. It is therefore a one-of-a-kind piece, both decorative and scientific.

What the photo shows

At 2.5 million light-years, the Andromeda Galaxy (M31) is the Milky Way’s big neighbour and the most distant object visible to the naked eye; the two galaxies are expected to merge in a few billion years. To go further, our page on the Andromeda Galaxy also tells you more.

Three genuine fragments: Campo del Cielo, Gebel Kamil and Aletai

Thus, three fragments share the same disc. Campo del Cielo is an iron meteorite that fell about 4,000 years ago in northern Argentina. Gebel Kamil is a very nickel-rich iron meteorite from a small crater in the Egyptian desert. Aletai is an iron meteorite from the Chinese Altai, with a distinctive metallic sheen.
